Millions of metal wire bristle grill brushes sold under the Weber and Nexgrill brands have been recalled following reports that small wire bristles can detach during use, adhere to grill grates or food, and be inadvertently swallowed. These bristles may also become airborne and embed in the skin, eyes, ears, or other parts of the body. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, detached bristles present a serious ingestion hazard and can cause significant internal injuries requiring medical treatment or even surgery. Beyond ingestion risks, these loose bristles have also been linked to painful and potentially serious eye and skin injuries.
For consumers, the danger may not be obvious until after food has already been eaten or exposure has already occurred. A small wire bristle can become lodged in the throat or digestive tract, or cause external injury, leading to pain, irritation, infection, puncture injuries, or other serious complications. Federal regulators announced two major recalls in 2026 involving this same hazard, raising broader concerns about the safety of metal wire bristle grill brushes.
Individuals who suffered injuries after using a recalled grill brush may have legal options. When a product poses an unreasonable danger during normal use, injured consumers may be able to pursue compensation through a product liability claim.
On February 26, 2026, the CPSC announced that Weber recalled about 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes. The recall notice states that small wire bristles can detach from the brushes, stick to the grill or food, and be swallowed, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.
Then, on March 26, 2026, the CPSC announced a second large recall involving Nexgrill. Nexgrill recalled over 10.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes.
Together, the two recalls involve more than 13 million grill brushes tied to the same hazard.
Grill brushes are intended to help clean cooking surfaces, but tiny metal bristles can come loose during brushing and remain behind or become airborne.
Swallowed metal bristles may cause throat pain, abdominal pain, puncture wounds, infection, and digestive injuries. Detached bristles can also strike the eye or embed in the skin, potentially requiring medical treatment.
