Parker Waichman LLP Honors the Victims and Heroes of September 11 on the 25th Anniversary

Twenty-five years have passed since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, but the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the courage displayed on that day remain firmly in the nation’s memory. Parker Waichman LLP joins people throughout New York City and across the United States in honoring the victims, their families, the survivors, and the first responders whose heroism defined one of the most difficult moments in American history.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Each victim left behind a family, friends, coworkers, and a community forever changed by their absence. As the years pass, remembering them as individuals remains central to the observance of September 11.

The anniversary also offers an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary bravery of the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, Port Authority officers, construction workers, volunteers, and other responders who rushed toward danger. While thousands of people sought safety, these men and women entered burning buildings, searched through wreckage, assisted the injured, and worked for months at recovery sites.

New Yorkers also responded with remarkable unity and compassion. Hospitals prepared for the injured, strangers helped one another escape Lower Manhattan, volunteers distributed food and supplies, and communities supported grieving families. Across the country, Americans donated blood, displayed flags, attended vigils, and stood together against fear.

The passage of 25 years has not diminished the importance of preserving the stories of September 11. A generation has now reached adulthood without a personal memory of the attacks. Parents, teachers, museums, memorials, and community organizations therefore carry an important responsibility to explain what happened and to share the individual stories behind the historical record.
