Nationwide Recall Highlights Impact Risks, Hearing Injuries, and Potential Lawsuits for Victims

A nationwide recall has been issued for approximately 3.6 million HydroTech Expandable Burst-Proof Water Hoses following multiple reports of the hoses rupturing unexpectedly during normal use. These hoses, marketed as “burst-proof,” were sold between January 2021 and April 2025 through major retailers such as Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon, Ace Hardware, Target, and other stores nationwide. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has warned that these hoses pose an impact hazard and can cause temporary hearing loss or physical injuries when they burst without warning.

Winston Products, based in Glenwillow, Ohio, voluntarily issued the recall after receiving 222 reports of hoses rupturing. At least 29 injuries have been confirmed, including temporary hearing impairment, sprains, and even a bone bruise. Despite being labeled as safe and reliable, the hoses have caused unexpected harm to consumers nationwide, raising serious concerns about product safety and consumer protection.

Details of the Recall and Affected Products

The recall applies to 5/8-inch HydroTech Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses manufactured on or before August 31, 2024. The hoses were sold in multiple lengths—25, 50, 60, 75, 100, and 200 feet—and various colors. A gray 60-foot version was also included in an “Auto Care” kit.

Affected hoses can be identified by their date codes ending in -211 through -243, which are printed near the end of the hose that attaches to the water spigot. Customers are instructed to immediately stop using these hoses and return them for a full refund. The hoses were made in Cambodia, China, and Vietnam, and retail prices ranged from $20 to $136.

Consumers who purchased these hoses are being told to cut the regulator-end of the hose, mark it with their initials and date, and submit a photo to Winston Products for a refund if they bought it online or from non-major retailers. However, this process does not address medical costs, pain, or long-term injuries already sustained by victims of hose ruptures.

Potential Injuries Linked to HydroTech Hose Failures

When a HydroTech hose ruptures under pressure, it can cause a sudden, loud burst, sending debris or water streams flying at high speed. Reported injuries include:

  • Temporary or long-term hearing damage due to the explosive sound of the burst.
  • Impact injuries are caused by the force of the regulator breaking off.
  • Sprains, bruises, or bone injuries from sudden movement or recoil of the hose.
  • Psychological distress caused by traumatic incidents involving unexpected explosions of household products.

Some victims may experience ongoing hearing issues, require medical evaluations, or even face long-term impairment. These injuries can lead to significant medical costs, lost wages, and emotional suffering.

Legal Rights for Victims of Defective HydroTech Hoses

Product manufacturers have a legal obligation to ensure their products are safe for consumer use. When a defective product causes harm, victims may have grounds to file a product liability lawsuit to seek compensation for damages such as:

  • Medical expenses for immediate and ongoing care.
  • Lost income from time off work due to injury.
  • Physical pain, emotional suffering, and reduced quality of life.
  • Compensation for permanent hearing loss or disability.
  • Reimbursement for the defective product and related costs.

A recall does not automatically compensate injured consumers. Legal action may be necessary to hold Winston Products accountable for injuries caused by its defective hoses and failure to prevent foreseeable risks.

What To Do If You Were Injured by a HydroTech Hose

If you or someone you love was injured by a recalled HydroTech water hose:

  1. Seek immediate medical attention for any injuries, including hearing evaluations.
  2. Preserve the defective hose and any packaging or receipts as evidence.
  3. Document your injuries with photos, medical records, and witness statements.
  4. Contact a product liability attorney to review your potential claim and protect your legal rights.

Time limits, known as statutes of limitations, apply to personal injury claims. Acting promptly can help secure vital evidence and increase your chances of a successful legal outcome.

Lawsuit FAQs: HydroTech Water Hose Injuries

What Kind Of Lawsuit Can I File For Injuries Caused By A Hydrotech Water Hose?

You may be able to file a product liability lawsuit against Winston Products, the manufacturer of HydroTech hoses. Product liability claims generally allege design defects, manufacturing defects, or failure to warn consumers of known hazards. An attorney can review your case and determine the best legal approach.

Can I Still Sue Even If The Hoses Were Recalled?

Yes. A recall does not eliminate the manufacturer’s liability for injuries already caused by the defective product. If you suffered hearing damage, physical injury, or other harm, you may pursue compensation despite the recall.

What Compensation Could I Receive From A Hydrotech Hose Lawsuit?

Compensation may include medical costs, rehabilitation expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, permanent disability payments, and other financial losses related to your injury. In severe cases, punitive damages may be sought to punish negligent manufacturers.

How Long Do I Have To File A Hydrotech Hose Injury Claim?

Time limits vary by state, typically ranging from one to four years from the date of injury or discovery of harm. Consulting an attorney quickly ensures you do not miss important filing deadlines.

Do I Need To Keep The Defective Hose As Evidence?

Yes. Preserving the hose, packaging, and proof of purchase is crucial for building a strong claim. This evidence can demonstrate that you owned an affected product and help establish liability.
