Parents Alarmed as ByHeart Recalls Infant Formula Amid FDA Botulism Investigation

After the FDA launched a broad investigation into a nationwide cluster of infant botulism cases, baby formula maker ByHeart has issued a voluntary recall of two production batches.

The company insists no contamination has been confirmed but says it’s acting “out of an abundance of caution.” That precautionary step follows reports that 83 infants nationwide have been diagnosed with botulism since August 2025 — including 13 babies who reportedly consumed ByHeart formula.

The FDA has not confirmed a direct link between ByHeart products and the illnesses, yet the news has left many parents frightened — and searching for clear answers.

“When something involves your child’s food, even a hint of risk feels unacceptable,” says one mother whose baby was fed ByHeart formula earlier this year.

Understanding Infant Botulism

Infant botulism is rare but can be life-threatening. It happens when Clostridium botulinum spores grow in a baby’s intestines, releasing toxins that affect muscle control and breathing.

Watch for these warning signs:

  • Constipation or poor feeding
  • Weak or altered cry
  • Drooping eyelids or sluggish pupils
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Weak muscle tone or overall fatigue

If your child shows any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

Which ByHeart Batches Were Recalled

The recall covers only two specific batches of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula:

  • Batch Code 251261P2 | Use By: December 1, 2026
  • Batch Code 251131P2 | Use By: December 1, 2026
  • UPC: 5004496800

You’ll find the batch code printed on the bottom of each can.
No other ByHeart products are affected.

What Parents Should Do

  • Stop using the recalled cans immediately.
  • Contact ByHeart for replacements or reimbursement: hello@byheart.com or 1-833-429-4327 (24/7 line).
  • Monitor your baby closely for any symptoms listed above.
  • Report suspected illnesses to the FDA through MedWatch.

Parents who discarded affected cans can receive free replacements plus two additional cans.

ByHeart Infant Formula Lawsuit – Legal Investigation Underway

Although the FDA hasn’t found contamination, the recall raises serious concerns about manufacturing oversight and safety compliance.

Potential legal claims could include:

  • Negligence – if the company failed to maintain proper safety controls.
  • Product Liability – if contaminated or unsafe products reached consumers.
  • Failure to Warn – if risks were known but not disclosed promptly.

Our ByHeart infant formula lawyers are reviewing potential lawsuits to determine whether families whose children became sick may qualify for compensation.

Who May Have a ByHeart Recall Claim

You may have a legal case if:

  • Your baby consumed one of the recalled batches;
  • Your child developed serious illness, required hospitalization, or showed neurological symptoms; or
  • You incurred medical or financial hardship linked to ByHeart formula use.

Compensation could cover medical bills, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other damages.
