Recalled Bugaboo Giraffe High Chairs Pose Fall Risk to Infants
Bugaboo North America has issued an urgent recall of its Giraffe high chairs following serious safety concerns that the product poses a fall hazard to infants and young children. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on June 12, 2025, after at least 22 reported incidents of the chair legs detaching from the frame. Of these, 13 involved minor injuries to children, raising fears that further use of the product could result in life-threatening injuries or death.
These high chairs, manufactured in the Czech Republic and sold across the United States and Canada, were marketed as modern, stylish, and adaptable. However, a critical flaw in their design has made them dangerous for the very families they were meant to support. According to the recall notice, the legs can detach from the frame if the screws are not properly tightened during assembly, causing the chair to collapse without warning.
Approximately 18,280 units were sold in the U.S. and 2,325 in Canada between May 2023 and April 2025 through major retailers, including Nordstrom, Amazon, and other specialty stores.
If your child suffered injuries—or worse—while seated in a Bugaboo Giraffe High Chair, you may be entitled to file a product liability lawsuit. Our national civil litigation law firm is now investigating claims related to this recall and is available to help families pursue compensation and accountability.
The Bugaboo Giraffe high chair was promoted as an adjustable, grow-with-your-child seating solution designed for infants through toddlers. But the very parts intended to support the chair’s stability—its legs and assembly screws—turned out to be its most dangerous components.
The CPSC recall states that if the chair is not assembled with the screws fully tightened, the legs may detach, causing the high chair to collapse. Infants and toddlers who cannot brace themselves or react quickly enough to falls are especially vulnerable to head trauma, bone fractures, facial injuries, and other severe consequences when a chair gives way.
Although Bugaboo issued a free repair kit and has begun contacting known purchasers, the product design and reliance on consumers for correct assembly created an unacceptable level of risk. Infant and toddler products must be fail-safe, especially when a product’s defect could result in a fall from several feet onto a hard surface.
High chairs are classified as infant support devices and are subject to federal safety regulations. Manufacturers must ensure that these products remain stable under normal use conditions, including standard movement from a child. Unfortunately, the Bugaboo Giraffe high chair’s design places the burden of safety on parents and caregivers—requiring perfect screw alignment and proper tension during assembly, or else the product may catastrophically fail.
Specific problems include:
The product’s instability may not be obvious immediately. A chair may appear secure during light use but collapse during a moment of leaning or movement from the child. This inconsistency makes the risk difficult for parents to detect before an injury occurs.
While no deaths have been publicly reported as of the recall date, the nature of high chair falls poses a constant threat of fatal injury, particularly among infants and toddlers. Falls from chairs can result in:
In households with hard flooring—tile, hardwood, or concrete—a fall from chair height can be catastrophic. Even when injuries are labeled “minor,” they may still require emergency room visits, imaging, and long-term monitoring for brain trauma or developmental concerns.
If your child fell from a Bugaboo Giraffe chair, and even if they seemed fine initially, it’s critical to review the circumstances of the incident. Some injuries may not be immediately obvious, and your family may still have legal grounds for compensation, including costs of medical evaluation, treatment, and pain and suffering.
The recalled Bugaboo Giraffe high chairs were sold in five different color options. Each chair’s item code is located on the bottom of the seat, and the recall applies to all of the following product codes:
ColorItem Code: White 200008001, Neutral Wood/White 200008002, Warm Wood/Gray 200008003, Black 200008004, and Blue 200008005
The chairs were sold for approximately $380 at retailers such as Nordstrom, Amazon.com, and other specialty baby stores. The recall covers chairs purchased from May 2023 through April 2025.
Consumers were advised to stop using the chairs immediately and request a free repair kit, which includes an Allen key and new screws. However, even with a repair kit, some families may be left with uncertainty about whether their child’s safety can truly be restored.
Parents trust that baby products placed on the market have undergone rigorous testing and are safe for daily use. When that trust is broken—especially due to a design that places children in direct harm—families have the right to take legal action.
If your child was injured due to a defective Bugaboo Giraffe high chair, you may be able to file a product liability lawsuit based on the following:
Families may also be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim if a fatal injury occurred as a result of the high chair collapse. These claims can recover damages for funeral expenses, medical bills, loss of companionship, and other devastating losses.
