The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a nationwide warning advising families to immediately stop using Beianpp “Pack and Play” aftermarket play yard mattresses. These products, sold on Amazon between March 2024 and June 2025, fail to meet mandatory federal safety standards for crib mattresses. The deficiencies create potentially deadly hazards, including the risk of entrapment and suffocation for infants.
CPSC officials have confirmed that the mattresses do not provide adequate thickness and lack essential information about which play yards they are intended for. When paired with an incompatible play yard, dangerous gaps can form between the mattress and the sidewalls. If an infant’s face becomes trapped in these spaces or against an overly padded surface, airflow can be restricted, leading to suffocation and potentially fatal consequences.
Although no recall has been issued because Beianpp has refused to cooperate with the agency, CPSC strongly urges parents to stop using the product immediately and dispose of it to prevent injuries or fatalities.
Approximately 5,000 Beianpp mattresses were sold exclusively on Amazon.com for $28 to $56. The products feature a dual-sided cover with a star-and-moon print on one side and a plain gray finish on the other. They were packaged in a light gray storage bag with “BEIANPP” printed on the front.
These mattresses were imported from China by the seller Xiamenhengbeianshangmaoyouxiangongsi. The products do not identify the specific brands or model numbers of play yards they should be used with, leaving consumers to guess compatibility. This omission is a serious violation of federal standards, which are designed to ensure that aftermarket mattresses fit securely inside play yards, eliminating dangerous gaps that have tragically caused infant deaths in the past.
Parents who purchased these mattresses are urged to stop using them immediately, dispose of them safely, and report any incidents of injury or defects to the CPSC through SaferProducts.gov.
Infants are highly vulnerable to suffocation and entrapment hazards caused by poorly designed or ill-fitting sleep surfaces. Using an unsafe aftermarket mattress can cause:
The dangers posed by the Beianpp mattresses are consistent with previous reports of fatalities linked to other aftermarket play yard mattresses that failed safety testing.
When manufacturers or sellers put unsafe children’s products on the market, they may be legally liable for injuries or deaths caused by those products. If your child was harmed or suffocated while using a Beianpp “Pack and Play” mattress, you may have grounds to pursue a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer, importer, and retailer.
Potential compensation may cover:
Pursuing legal action can help parents recover financial losses, expose negligent sellers, and prevent other families from facing the same heartbreak.
Immediately stop using the mattress and dispose of it safely. Do not attempt to resell or donate it, as it is a known safety hazard. Keep your purchase records, photographs of the mattress, and any packaging in case you need to prove that you bought the defective product for a potential legal claim.
Yes. Families may file a product liability lawsuit even if their child survived but suffered injuries, trauma, or required hospitalization. Legal claims can seek compensation for medical bills, long-term health complications, and emotional suffering caused by the unsafe product.
Who Can Be Held Responsible For This Defective Mattress?
Potentially liable parties may include the Chinese manufacturer, the U.S. distributor, and Amazon, as the online retailer that facilitated the sale. Product liability law allows consumers to hold multiple parties accountable when unsafe products cause harm.
Save all documentation, including receipts, order confirmations, product packaging, photographs, and any medical records related to your child’s injuries. Witness statements and reports submitted to the CPSC can also strengthen your case.
Yes. Product liability and wrongful death claims are subject to statutes of limitation that vary by state. Acting quickly helps protect your right to seek justice and ensures that critical evidence is preserved.
