A multistate outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis linked to brown cage free and certified organic eggs distributed by the August Egg Company has sickened at least 79 people across seven states. The outbreak has resulted in 21 hospitalizations, and the number may grow as the FDA continues its investigation. Eggs were distributed to retailers including Walmart, Safeway, Save Mart, and others across states such as California, Nevada, Arizona, Washington, and Illinois.
These recalled eggs were sold under several recognizable brand names, including O Organics, First Street, Simple Truth, Nulaid, Clover, Marketside, and Sunnyside. Consumers unknowingly brought these contaminated products into their homes, only to suffer from severe foodborne illness symptoms such as fever, abdominal cramps, and debilitating diarrhea.
Our national civil litigation law firm, Parker Waichman LLP, is now reviewing claims for individuals harmed by these recalled eggs. If you or a loved one experienced Salmonella symptoms after consuming any of these products, you may have grounds to pursue financial compensation.
The brown cage free and certified organic eggs were recalled due to contamination with Salmonella bacteria—a dangerous foodborne pathogen that can cause serious illness and even death in high-risk individuals. The products were supplied by the August Egg Company of Hilmar, California.
The affected egg cartons have Julian dates between “32” and “126” and were marked with plant codes “P-6562” or “CA-5330.” These contaminated products were sold between February 3, 2025, and May 15, 2025, and had sell-by dates from March 4, 2025, through June 19, 2025.
Egg Brands Involved in the Recall Include:
Consumers may have bought these eggs in cartons or loose flats, packaged in either fiber or plastic containers. These eggs were widely distributed, making this recall a matter of national concern.
Salmonella infection can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening illness, particularly for:
Even healthy individuals can experience severe symptoms, including:
Many victims require hospitalization due to dehydration or the severity of the infection. In the current outbreak, 21 individuals have been hospitalized, and health officials fear more cases may emerge.
After multiple consumers were hospitalized with Salmonella, the FDA and CDC launched an investigation in collaboration with state and local health authorities. Through traceback efforts, officials discovered that nearly all the infected individuals had eaten eggs or egg-based dishes prior to becoming ill.
Environmental samples taken from the August Egg Company’s processing facility in Hilmar, California tested positive for the same strain of Salmonella Enteritidis found in sickened patients. These findings provided genetic confirmation that August Egg Company’s eggs were the common source of the outbreak.
In May 2025, August Egg Company ceased standard egg distribution and began sending all remaining stock to an egg-breaking facility that pasteurizes eggs to reduce contamination risks. However, by then, thousands of contaminated eggs had already entered households, restaurants, and retailers across the country.
If you became ill after consuming any of the recalled eggs, you may be legally entitled to compensation. Product liability laws and food safety regulations are in place to hold companies accountable when unsafe food causes harm to consumers.
Victims may be able to pursue compensation for:
In some cases, claims may be brought not only against the August Egg Company, but also against distributors, retailers, or restaurant chains that served the recalled eggs.
